1. How did it all start? When did you decide to go after your dreams?
We made the decision to pursue our dreams when we stopped listening to people telling us that our idea wouldn’t work. We simply made the decision to make it happen and create our own circumstances and opportunity.  A simple decision is all that it takes to start.  Market America started in 1992 working from our modest home in North Carolina.  There were so many obstacles and challenges in the early days. Having an Internet shopping company and an online cosmetics company (Motives Cosmetics) was even more challenging in 1992 when no one shopped online. In fact, most people didn’t even own a computer in 1992. So, the concept seemed impossible to others, but not to my husband JR, my family, or our team.  We started the business with very little capital; however, we had a clear vision, passion and a strong desire to succeed and do something that had never been done before.  It’s never easy being a pioneer, but the payoff is so rewarding in so many ways.

  1. What’s your biggest passion in life? What drives you every morning? Well, my daughter is my biggest inspiration, but my biggest passion is to help other people succeed.  It’s something that most people won’t do.  People are afraid to help other people succeed because of their fear that they will be better than them, or they will replace them. Some people won’t help others because they don’t have the time. We make time to help others, which is what we do best. In our business, we help other people achieve time and financial freedom by teaching them how to work for themselves. Our company provides people access to our business, technology and products like Motives Cosmetics.  They can share these products with others and make money. I love helping others, there is nothing more rewarding than seeing someone’s life positively change personally and financially. One of the greatest things about Motives Cosmetics is that it not only makes you beautiful on the outside, but it also enhances the beauty from within.  I believe that when you look your best, you feel your best.
3. How do you feed your mind every day?
I only surround myself with positive people.  It is a requirement.  I refuse to be around people who are negative and bring negative energy. Listen, it is tough enough to succeed, so why make it harder by keeping the naysayers around you who will only bring you down.  I prefer to surround myself with a group of people who support and encourage my efforts and success.  I keep a very small group of friends. Thankfully, you can choose the people to be with, so choose wisely.

  1. What is success to you?
Success to me is different today than it used to be.  Of course, in the early days, success was making money to pay the bills. Today, success is more about learning to balance my family and personal time with work. Having time freedom is critical to the formula of success.  All work and no play isn’t fun for anyone.  For me, success is the ability to live life on your own terms.  Success is having the financial freedom to do the things you want to do, spend time with your family and grandchildren as well as helping others achieve their goals and dreams.

  1. Is your strategy replicable?
Of course, this is what makes our business so attractive.  We actually have created a business model that anyone can be a part of and duplicate with others.

  1. If you were given $50 to start a business, how would you do it?
I would start my own business with Market America. However, if that was not an option, I would identify a product in a niche market that people need. I would find a manufacturer to make it at and use social media to build the brand and market it.  With today’s technology, it is no longer necessary to spend a lot of money for advertising and marketing.  Social media has leveled the playing field. Motives Cosmetics has used social media to attract new customers with virtually no cost.  Social media, with the visual impact of Instagram has enhanced the Motives brand image with all of the beautiful looks created by many talented women.

  1. If you would interview 3 successful people who they would be?
Princess Diana, Ronald Reagan, Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis

  1. What do you envision yourself doing when you turn 80?
Exactly the same thing I am doing now…helping people achieve time and financial freedom.  When you love what you do, you never work a day in your life.

  1. Words of wisdom. What would you like to say to the people that are just starting on their journey to success?
Don’t let anything or anyone stop you.  Find a mentor and ask for help.  Do the hardest things first every day. Never give up.
Dream big because you will never be bigger than your dreams.

A Day in the Life: Top 5 Posts of All Time on November 5, 2014

A Day in the Life: Top 5 Posts of All Time

on November 5, 2014
No two UnFranchise® Owners are alike, and neither are their daily lives! If you’ve ever wondered how other UnFranchise Owners spend their time, when they build their business, or which activities they enjoy in their free time, you’re in luck! Today, we’re sharing the top 5 a day in the life posts of all time with you, plus our favorite quotes from each. Check ‘em out and let us know which one was YOUR favorite!
A day in the Life of Josh Delaney
“I am frequently deep in thought, thinking about how to better my business and lifestyle. It’s not that I think I am better or that I am above anyone, I just always want to get better. Every minute of every day, I’m thinking about how I can be better tomorrow, or how can I be better right now. Should I be doing what I am doing right now? Where is this going to get me? I’m always analyzing my situation and environment, choosing where I put myself and who I surround myself with. You may take this the wrong way, but to me, its strategy. We are all going to die someday; I will not let myself die with regret of knowing I could have been. This is why I do what I do, and this is why I am an UnFranchise Owner. It’s the best opportunity to get the average person with no background in business or education closer to the life of their dreams. I was a nobody; but this business has made me a somebody.”
A day in the life of Andrew Chee
“My team and I also take the opportunity to hang out with our senior partners and advisory council members, Min Chen and Wei Wang, whenever we can. They always have great insight on what we can do to improve. I really love how the people we work with treat us like family, and I try to do the same for my team. I love spending my free time with my “family.” We do everything together, from watching movies in the middle of the day, to trying out all sorts of food, playing both physical and electronic sports, and sometimes we even do nothing at all together! There’s never a dull moment with our ma® family.”
A day in the life of Katie Six
“So, how does my life compare to a typical 9-5 job? First off, I don’t know very many people that really have a 9-5 job, especially anyone working professional jobs that are salaried or commission based. When I worked in corporate sales, I typically worked 8AM – 8PM Monday – Friday and at least several hours catching up on Saturday. Working from home, setting my own schedule, deciding who I spend my time with; these things are absolutely invaluable to me. See, I was always willing to work really, really hard but what I realized was that when I was working for someone else, my time was not my own. My corporate jobs, despite doing really good work and putting in 60-80 plus hours of my life for 10 years, they don’t pay me anymore. I do not still get one single penny from all that work I put in. Now, with my UnFranchise Business, I’m able to get paid over and over for the work I’ve done over the past five years and will continue to get paid residually for the work I do.”
A day in the life of Sarah Rose and Ryan Stack
“We travel a lot for work and as a family. Some weeks, we wake up and the family is dropping me off at the airport because I’m going to London that week. Sometimes, I run solo because Ryan is in NY taking massive action to build our business. I’ve been asked about this travel for work more often than I think I expected to. The way I look at it is like this: our kids see us as loving parents and as individuals. They see us valuing our work and that we enjoy making a contribution. You can tell your kids that they can be or do anything they want until you’re blue in the face, but unless you are demonstrating that on a daily basis, your message may be lost on them.
Our lives are busy and crazy full everyday but we’ve designed it to be that way.  We have a routine that we created, every day is a little different, and we sit back and take it all in. Being a UFO is not about never working again, it’s about finally getting the chance to live.”
A day in the life of Phil Nguyen
“I am very privileged to live the life I do. I am able to do business in my own city, as well as travel across the country to help others and expand their business. I have the ability to travel to other countries and connect with new friends and partners. At the same time, I am also able to spend time with family and loved ones. I have time to do the random things I want to do in life like learn and compete in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, learn new songs on the piano, go with my niece to Chuck-e-Cheese, watch a live championship fight with my closest buddies, and even sing karaoke with some goofballs. This is my random weird life that I live and I am very humbled and feel very lucky to have it. Not lucky as in a sense that this life was just handed to me, but lucky as in I choose to work my butt of with my brother early in life so we could both retire before 30. Now, we can basically do whatever we want with our lives. I am living a life based on pursing passions and dreams, instead of simply existing and living a mediocre life.”

Seeming to do is not doing.

"Being busy does not always mean real work. The object of all work is production or accomplishment and to either of these ends there must be forethought, system, planning, intelligence, and honest purpose, as well as perspiration. Seeming to do is not doing."
- Thomas A. Edison

One-to-One Marketing

When companies first began marketing products and services to a mass consumer base, it was a very one-sided process. Businesses would use tactics to try and persuade the largest number of people possible to buy their brands rather than identify and provide what consumers actually wanted.

As times changed, so did the means of reaching new markets. Whereas direct mail, catalogs, and other forms of mass advertising may have worked in the past, they were losing effectiveness in the face of an emerging individualistic society. Consumer demands began to change. People didn't want to wade through a multitude of marketing messages that didn't apply to their unique situations.

A new era had arrived where consumers only wanted to be exposed to promotions that spoke directly to their current interests, likes, wants and needs. They wanted to be treated as individuals. This was the catalyst that sparked the notion of One-to-One Marketing.

One-to-One Marketing allows Market America to always have a finger on the pulse of the marketplace through an expansive global network of UnFranchise Business Owners. Each UnFranchise Business Owner is able to build personal relationships with a core group of customers, learn about each one's specific needs, and then fulfill those needs. This helps the UnFranchise Business Owner establish lifetime value with every customer.

Essentially, the One-to-One Marketing component of Market America's business model restores personalized customer service on a global scale.
